Warp It is a furniture reuse Portal system to allow big organisations to manage their assets across multiple sites and to reduce the cost, both in pounds but also in environmental terms, of disposing of lots of perfectly serviceable items that are surplus to requirements.
This system is one of the flagship developments we have ever worked on, not only in technology used, but in ethical terms. We’ve been working on this project for 2 years now and we are still amazed by the amount of waste that is created by public and private organisations that can easily be reduced by simply sharing items that work but you no longer have a requirement for.
Sunderland City Council saved over £400,000 in the first year of using Warp It, and disposed of £42,000 of surplus stock to charities for free helping out the third sector in their area.
The system is a portal to allow big organisations to manage resources within their organisation in a cloud based system. The system can be accessed from anywhere and items can even be added to the system even when offline via the IPhone App. There is a sophisticated user management system, that allows the creation of a network of umbrella organisations who will share resources with you.
There is explicit control given to each portal administrator as to how they configure the system, from creating an internal only group, to customising system emails and deciding when partners or the whole of Warp IT can claim your items, the system is completely customisable for each organisations needs.
The website itself is built in C# in .NET 4.5, but running numerous frameworks like Entity, LINQ, MVC and Razor to name a few. There are so many user set rules on who can see what, and when, that makes the search system a work of art on its own!
The site is hosted on the Intel XEON E3 V2 CPU with 16GB of memory and a Solid State Drive, meaning complex routines can be run on searches to produce accurate more detailed results at the fastest possible speeds.
The list of public and private UK organisations that are using and saving money by using Warp It Reuse Portal is staggering;
- NHS
- AstraZeneca
- Northumberland County Council
- Sunderland City Council
- University of St Andrews
- Avon and Somerset Police
- Devon County Council
To name a few of the 1300 organisations that have signed up to Warp IT so far and are saving money every single day.
We are about to launch US and Australian versions in the near future which will make Warp It a truly international success story.
Warp It and its partners have won many awards over the years, The Sustainable Labs Awards, Compact Voice Awards, National Recycling Awards
