We discussed their budgets and expectations. We calculated from their average expected
conversion rates how many new enquiries they would need to make to “pay” for this
search work and we started them on a £250 every alternative month package that would
allow us 10 hours of work to be carried out each alternate month.
The first thing to do was to “clean up” the existing website, apply accessibility
standards and fix any css or coding errors to w3c standards. The next thing was
to identify search terms and regional areas we would be targeting. We ran a scan
on the search terms we would be initially looking to promote and the results are
displayed below.
You can see they just about scrapped onto the first page of Google for “Bridlington
Removals” and that was about it. There are 10 listings per “page” on Google and
you really need to be in the top 2 pages if you hope to pick up much traffic, especially
for regional search terms as they don’t get that many searches per month. Over the
next 8 months we worked our magic to build on this base line. I’m not going to go
into detail as to what we do!! That would be telling! But a lot of it is things
website owners should be doing themselves, and are quite capable of. Your website
is only as good as the ways people can find it, and that means links people!!
We tracked our progress over each session, and worked out which terms needed more
work, and which we’d achieved our “first page on Google” goal and didn’t need to
work on further. More magic ensued and we added new search terms to the report as
we hit our targets with existing ones. The final results are shown at the end of
this document. We achieved our targets on the vast majority of the search terms
we initially tracked and a lot more besides. Our Search Marketting campaign opened
up this company to other towns and cities they would never attracted business from
before even though there are all within the companies “area of operation.”
Visitor numbers rocketed and so did enquiries, the owner personally thanked us for
the difference we had made to his business. He’d spent £1000 over 8 months to achieve
the kind of rankings he should have had when he launched his website and business
all those years ago. When he’s ready to deal with more enquiries he’ll be back and
we’ll finish the job on those trickier search terms!
Would you pay £1000 for this kind of change in your search engine rankings? The
list below is not the "definative" list of search terms they rank and receive traffic
for, each region also supports lots of other terms, ie Bridlington related terms
also include things like "Removal firms Bridlington" and "Removals men Bridlington"
etc etc, but it takes time to track each term so we only track certain terms.
